Brian Blumsack enters his fifth year at the helm of the
Framingham State University baseball program. In 2010
Blumsack was selected the MASCAC Baseball Coach of the year as he
guided the Rams to a school record 24 wins. The Rams finished
second in the MASCAC with an 11-3 record and qualified for the
MASCAC post season tournament for the first time since 2003.
Blumsack's Rams were selected to participate in the 2010 ECAC New
England Baseball Championship where they advanced to the
semifinals. The 2010 Rams, who went 24-18 and hosted their
first MASCAC playoff game, set a school record for wins, games
played (42) and hits in a season (403).
Prior to joining the Rams, Blumsack spent two seasons as an
assistant coach at Lake City Community College in Florida. While at
Lake City, Blumsack coached over twenty players drafted by Major
League teams including helping to produce a 10th round pick for
the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. As Pitching Coach,
Blumsack's 2006 staff led the state of Florida with over 400
strikeouts, posted a 3.44 ERA and led Lake City to the
Florida Community College Activity Association State Playoffs and a
runner up finish in the Mid-Florida Conference. In 2007,
Lake City compiled 36 wins, produced the state, and conference
relief pitcher of the year, as well as the conference player of the
year. In 2010, one of Blumsack's Lake City pitchers was
promoted to the major leagues. Lake City's program was
nationally ranked in 2006 by Baseball America, and again in 2007 by
Perfect Game.
In his first four seasons at the helm, the Rams have improved
their record each year. The 2009 Rams offense had the highest
team batting average since 2005 and the highest team on base
percentage, slugging percentage and most RBI since 2003. As a
team the Rams hit 27 homeruns in 2009, which is the highest team
total since 2001.
As a player, Blumsack spent his freshman season pitching for the
University of Massachusetts-Amherst (1999) before transferring to
Central Florida Community College (2000). After his sophomore
season at CFCC, Blumsack finished his playing career at Suffolk
University (Boston, MA) where he captained the 2002 Rams team that
advanced to the NCAA New England Regional Tournament. Blumsack was
a two-sport standout at Malden High School (MA) where he was named
Greater Boston League MVP, a Boston Globe All-Scholastic, and a
Massachusetts All-Star in baseball as well as a first
team Greater Boston League selection as a point guard in
basketball.
Blumsack earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Suffolk
University in 2003 and a Masters Degree in Administration of Higher
Education in 2005.
