Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday evening at Loring Arena. The Rams move to 1-0-2 on the young season. The Penman open their 2017-18 campaign at 0-0-1.
The Rams scored the lone goal of the first half on the power play when the Penman goalie came out of the crease to clear the puck, Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) tipped the puck out to the point, it was collected by Walker Hamilton (Anchorag, AK) who sent it into the open net.
The Penman tied the score on a power play of their own about halfway through the second frame when Chris Moquin (Hooksett, NH) scored with helpers from Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) and Jared Goudreau (Manchester, NH).
Neither team could find the back of the net again in the contest thanks to some stellar goaltending on both sides. Framingham net minder Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) turned away 39 shot for the Rams keeping the Penman at bay during multiple extended 5-on-3 power plays.
Ryan Slatky (Manchester, NH) made 35 saves in net for SNHU including a huge stop on a Rams breakaway in the closing minutes of regulation.
The Rams return to action on Thursday, November 9th when they travel to Worcester State to open up MASCAC play. The Penman open up NE-10 conference action on Friday, November 10th when they travel to St. Anselm.
