Rich Paulhus, the all-time winningest softball coach for the
Rams, is entering his 10th year at the helm of the Rams softball
team. He took over the softball program in 2003 after serving
as an assistant coach for the previous three seasons. Paulhus
picked up his 100th career victory on April 23rd, 2008 as the
Rams defeated Brandeis University by a score of 5-2. Paulhus
is only the fourth head coach in any sport at Framingham State to
achieve the 100 win milestone with the Rams.
In his first nine seasons, his team has made six appearances in
the conference tournament advancing to the finals three times while
capturing one MASCAC Tournament Championship (2007) and appearing
in one NCAA Division III Softball Regional (2007).
Coach Paulhus's teams have had eight consecutive winning seasons
in the conference and back-to-back 20 win seasons in 2006 &
2007. During his nine seasons at the helm of FSU's softball
program, Paulhus has had 19 players voted to the All-MASCAC
teams.
The Rams play one of the toughest schedules in the region. In
2009 the softball team played seven teams that participated in
the NCAA regionals, including three teams that reached its
regional championship game. In 2010 they once again played three
teams that participated in the NCAA Regionals.
In addition to their success on the field under Coach Paulhus,
the Rams have also excelled in the classroom. In 2006 the
Framingham State College Softball team was ranked 66th
in the country for team GPA by the National Fast Pitch Coaches
Association (NFCA) and two student-athletes were selected NFCA
All-America Scholar Athletes. In 2010, the team
placed five student-athletes on the MASCAC All-Academic
team.
In addition to coaching at Framingham State, he is currently
coaching the U18 Mass Pressure travel team. In 2007 his Mass
Pressure team finished 5th at the FAST National Championship
Tournament in Orlando, FL. Prior to joining the Rams, Paulhus
coached the Mass Pressure travel softball team for six years and in
1999 placed 9th at the PONY Nationals. He also
guided the team to the 1998 FAST New England Regional
Championship.
He has worked at GE Water for the past 16 years and currently
resides in Whitinsville with his wife, Lisa, son, Shane, and
daughter, Lexie.
