Framingham, Mass. – Junior Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) tallied seven goals and four assists to lead the Framingham State University women's lacrosse team to a 24-6 victory of Massachusetts Maritime in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.
With the win, the Rams improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in the NEWLA, while the Buccaneers fall to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
McLean's 11 points in the game establishes a new Framingham State women's lacrosse record for points in a game as she surpassed the old record of 10 which had been achieved twice. Senior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) chipped in four goals which put her over the 200 point mark in her career, while sophomore Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) tallied three. Junior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) contributed two goals and two assists. Junior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Kerri Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) each scored twice, while freshman Julie Mullen (Billerica, Mass.) picked up two assists.
The Buccaneers were led by their leading scorer, junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) who tallied a pair of goals to up her season total to 27 markers. Sophomore Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.), senior Kerri Conway (West Springfield, Mass.), junior Briana Bergstrom (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Shauna Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) each scored once for Mass. Maritime, while freshman Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) chipped in an assist.
The Rams jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before Courcy's first goal of the game got Mass. Maritime on the board just over 10 minutes into the contest. The Rams rattled off the next five goals of the game to take control.
Freshman Rebecca Rixan (Stow, Mass.) picked up the win in net for the Rams making two saves, while fellow freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) made 16 saves for the Buccaneers.
The Rams return to NEWLA action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Elms College at 4:30 p.m., while the Buccaneers host Bridgewater on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
