Volleyball Chosen to Finish Fifth in MASCAC Preseason Poll
Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team has been chosen to finish fifth in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's volleyball preseason poll in voting conducted by the conference's seven coaches. The Rams received 24 total points which was just two points behind MCLA who are in the fourth spot with 26 points.
Westfield State University was selected to finish first with 48 points and six of the seven first place votes, while Bridgewater State was in the second spot with 41 points and the remaining first place vote. Worcester State secured the third spot ahead of MCLA and Framingham State with 32 points. Rounding out the poll is Salem State in sixth with 18 points and Massachusetts Maritime in seventh with seven points.
The Rams finished the 2010 season 20-14 overall and 3-3 in the MASCAC which placed them in a tie for fourth. The Rams missed qualifying for the MASCAC post season tournament by virtue of the tiebreaker system. 2010 marked the first time the Rams reached the 20 win plateau since the 2001 season.
In 2011, the Rams return a solid core of veterans including sophomore outside hitter and second team All-MASCAC selection Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.). As a rookie Fernandes averaged just over two kills a game, was second on the team with 227 total kills and a .245 hitting percentage.
The women's volleyball team opens the 2011 season on Saturday, September 3rd as they play three matches at the Gordon College Invitational.
