Baseball Picks 8-7 Win Over Vassar in Extra Innings
Winter Haven, Fla. — Junior outfielder Steven Tramontozzi (Watertown, Mass.) drove in the winning run on a single in the tenth inning and senior righty Stephen Marfione (Medford, Mass.) pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief as the Framingham State College baseball team picked up its first win of the season 8-7 over Vassar College in ten innings at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Rams are now 1-3 on the season, while Vassar is now 0-1.
The Rams scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but Vassar chipped away at their lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Framingham State added two more in the second and a single run in the third, before Vassar added one in the second and two in the fourth and seventh to tie the game at 7-7.
In the top of the tenth with a runner on second and two out, Tramontozzi singled home the winning run. Marfione, who came on in relief in the seventh inning, worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the tenth to pick up his first win of the season.
Junior Justin Wojcik (Dracut, Mass.) started the game for the Rams and went five innings allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out three.
Tramontozzi finished the day 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, while leftfielder Corey Ketter (Plymouth, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI. Connor Moriarty (Danville, NH) and Joe Quinn (Assonet, Mass.) had two hits apiece in the game.
The Rams return to action tomorrow again in Winter Haven as they face SUNY Cobleskill in a double header beginning at 9:30 a.m.
