Hodgson Throws Two Hit Shutout in Game 1 as Baseball Splits a Pair with Farmingdale State

Kissimmee, Fla.  – Senior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning as he tossed a complete game two hit shutout as the Framingham State University baseball team defeated Farmingdale State 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  Farmingdale rallied from a four run deficit in game two to pick up the 6-5 victory in 10 innings.

  • Hodgson, who improves to 2-0 on the year, cruised through the first five plus innings of the game retiring the first 17 hitters that he faced while striking out four.
  • Farmingdale's first hit of the game, a bunt single, came with two outs in the sixth and their only other hit of the game was single in the seventh.
  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the third inning.  Junior Anthony Herman (Stratford, Conn.) reached on a three base error on a ball misplayed in the Farmingdale outfield.  Senior Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) walked putting runners on the corners.  Herman scored on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  Junior Andrew Curtis (Dracut, Mass.) reached on an infield single and moved to second on a pass ball. Curtis moved over to third on a ground out and scored on a double by junior Bobby Higgins (Barnstable, Mass.).
  • Hodgson went seven innings allowing no runs on the two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.



  • In game two, Farmingdale got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Framingham plated three in the top of the third. Freshman Gino DeSimone (Medford, Mass.) singled to center and moved to second on a single off Herman's bat.  Williams walked to load the bases and senior Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) drew a bases loaded walk that forced home DeSimone.  After an out, Farmingdale attempted to pick Williams off second, but the throw sailed into the outfield allowing Herman to score.  Senior Kyle Dembrowski (Natick, Mass.) delivered a sacrifice fly to right for the final run of the frame.
  • The Rams added two more in the top of the sixth extending the lead to 5-1.  Senior Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.) led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch.  After an out, senior Matt Fogarty (Milton, Mass.) doubled home Ambrosino and DeSimone followed with a double plating Fogarty.
  • Farmingdale plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning tying the game and forcing extra innings.
  • After a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, Farmingdale received an RBI single up the middle from Steven Burke in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the 6-5 victory.
  • Freshman Anthony Panza (Watertown, Mass.) had a solid start for the Rams, but did not factor in the decision.  Panza went six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Junior Kevin Scerra (Marlborough, Mass.) took the loss going 3.2 innings in relief and allowing one unearned run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts.



The Rams are back in action on Wednesday when they face SUNY New Paltz in doubleheader at Lake Myrtle beginning at 11 a.m.
