Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with MCLA

North Adams, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team picked up a pair of league victories this afternoon defeating MCLA by scores of 8-4 and 9-3 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Joe Wolfe Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

Game 1: FSU 8, MCLA 4 

  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Robert Johnston in the second inning back on April 24th. 

  • The game resumed this afternoon with the Trailblazers plating two runs in the third taking a 2-1 lead. 

  • The Rams used an RBI double from Cameron Gilroy in the fourth tying the game, but the Trailblazer retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth. 

  • The Rams scored three in the top of the sixth including RBI basehits from Johnny Lynch and Daniel Robichaud. The Trailblazers got one back in the bottom of the inning and the Rams led 5-4. 

  • The Rams added three more in the top of the seventh on a three run homer from Robichaud to seal the victory. 

  • Dane Frellick finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs scored, while Robichaud finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Johnston finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. 

  • Brady Perkins earned the victory going 6.1 innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. 

Game 2: FSU 9, MCLA 3 

  • The Rams used an RBI double from Robichaud in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. 

  • Lucas Basile's two run home run extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third. 

  • MCLA got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when the capitalized on an error to plate a run. 

  • The Rams plated six runs in the top of the seventh and MCLA added a pair in the bottom of the inning to reach the final margin. Ryan Boyle and Johnston drove in runs with hits and Robichaud added a grand slam. 

  • PJ Moniz earned the victory going six innings in relief. Moniz allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Robichaud finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and five RBI, while Basile went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
