Five Run Fifth Propels Wheaton Past Baseball 6-2

Fall River, Mass. - The Framingham State University led early, but Wheaton College used a five run fifth inning to defeat the Rams 6-2 this afternoon in non-conference action at Durfee High School.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were led offensively by two hits apiece from Steven Burbank and Dane Frellick. Frellick went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Burbank also went 2-for-4. 

  • Massimo Mondi went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base and a walk, while Rosco Palmer added a hit, an RBI and stolen base. 

  • Joshua Sunderland started on the mound for the Rams and took the loss in his first start of the season. Sunderland went 4.1 innings allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. 

  • Jaron Duffy and Keith Ramsey combined to toss 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with Rams not allowing a hit while striking out one. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Rams took the lead in the top of the first on an RBI single from Frellick, but the Lyons tied the game in the bottom of the third. 

  • The Rams regained the lead on Palmer's RBI single up the middle in the top of the fifth, but the Lyons answered with five in the bottom of the inning retaking the lead for good.
