Knox Rallies to Defeat Baseball 7-6

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University baseball team used a three run third inning to take the lead, but Knox rallied from behind to defeat the Rams 7-6 this afternoon in non-conference action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Complex. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Knox 7, Framingham State 6 

-Records: Framingham State (1-8), Knox (6-3) 

- Location: Lake Myrtle Complex – Auburndale, Fla. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Rams used a two run single from Lucas Basile in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.  Knox answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and the game was tied 2-2 after two. 

  • The Rams regained the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Steven Burbank launched a triple to right center plating a run and Daniel Robichaud followed with an RBI double plating Burbank.  Dane Frellick capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle. 

  • Knox rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning taking a 7-5 lead. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit down to one, 7-6, in the top of the fifth. With two outs, JC Espinal doubled to right center and Frellick followed with his second RBI single of the game. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning with one out, but Knox was able to record the final two outs and end the rally. 

  • Alexander Montero took the loss on the mound for the Rams, allowing seven earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. 

  • Jaron Duffy tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing just three hits with three walks and a strikeout and PJ Moniz tossed an inning of scoreless relief and did not allow a hit. 

  • Dane Frellick finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored, while Massimo Mondi finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.  JC Espinal finished the game 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.
