Baseball Opens MASCAC Action with Split at Bridgewater State

Bridgewater, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 3-2 in the opener and held off a late rally from Bridgewater State as the Rams defeated the Bears 10-9 in game two of a doubleheader this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action Alumni Park.

Game 1: Bridgewater State 3, Framingham State 2 

  • The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as they capitalized on a Ram error. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI triple off the bat of Daniel Robichaud. 

  • The Rams took a 2-1 lead the following inning on an RBI double to left from Lucas Basile. 

  • The Bears walked off with the victory in the opener plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. 

  • Joshua Sunderland went the distance for the Rams allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits with four walks and four strikeouts. 

 

Game 2: Framingham State 10, Bridgewater State 9 

  • The Bears once again grabbed an early 5-0 lead in game two with five runs in the first. 

  • The Rams got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as Christian Cox scored on a wild pitch and Dane Frellick added an RBI fielder's choice. 

  • The Rams tied the game with three runs in the third inning including an RBI single from Cox. 

  • The Rams added five runs in the third taking a 10-5 lead.  Scott Paquette singled home the first run and Rosco Palmer followed with a three-run home run to left center.  JC Espinal capped the inning with an RBI single. 

  • The Bears chipped away at the lead cutting the deficit to 10-7 in the sixth and a two-run single closed the gap to 10-9 in the seventh, but the Rams were able to close out the game and secure the victory. 

  • Ben Respress earned the victory in game two by tossing 3.1 innings in relief allowing no runs on one hit with three walks.  PJ Moniz closed the game by tossing a third of inning of relief to earn his first save of the season.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow when they return to Bridgewater for the final game of the three game series at noon.
