Baseball Falls at Springfield 11-6

Springfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 11-6 by Springfield College this afternoon in non-conference action at Archie Allen Field. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Springfield 11, Framingham State 6 

-Records: Framingham State (5-16), Springfield (7-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Rams were paced by a 3-for-5 performance at the plate from Steven Burbank. Burbank doubled, drove in three runs and scored another. 

  • Massimo Mondi finished the 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, while Dane Frellick went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. 

  • Roscoe Palmer finished the game with two hits and a run scored. 

  • Javier Lopez took the loss on the hill going five innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with five walks and a strikeout. 

  • The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk from Lucas Basile and a wild pitch. 

  • Springfield plated three in the bottom of the first taking a 3-2 lead. Spring field extended the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. 

  • The Rams received a two double from Burbank in the top of the fifth closing the gap to 5-4, but Springfield countered in the bottom of the inning pushing the lead back to two runs. 

  • Burbank singled home a run in the seventh and Frellick added an RBI single pulling the Rams within one, but Springfield secured the victory with four runs in the eighth.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow when they host Worcester for a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m.
