Football Soars to 22-12 Victory over Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team used a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns a  pair of stops late in the game to secure the victory as the Rams defeated Fitchburg State 22-12 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Elliot Field. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board on the first possession of the game when Jarvis Simon capped an eight-minute drive with a four-yard touchdown run. 

  • The Falcons tied the game 6-6 on the opening drive of the third quarter, but the Rams Kymauny Roland blocked the extra point, and Melvon Crump returned it for two points putting the Rams on top 8-6 just under four minutes into the third. 

  • The Falcons took the lead on a two yard touchdown run in the opening minute of the fourth. The Falcons went for two and did not get it and they led 12-8. 

  • The Rams reclaimed the lead on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Michael Marcucella to Mathias Fowler with 10 minutes remaining.  Dillon Magnus converted the extra point putting the Rams on top 15-12. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 22-12 on a 69-yard touchdown pass from Marcucella to Ayden Ramirez with just over seven minutes to play. 

  • The Rams defense came up with a sack and fumble on fourth down inside the 20 and an interception on the Falcons final two possessions to seal the victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Marcucella finished the game 16-of-24 for 169 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. 

  • Jaheim Daniels rushed for 59 yards on 20 carries, while Ramirez finished the game with two catches for 77 yards and a score. 

  • Josiah Mitchell finished the gamd with nine tackles, seven solo, an interception and two pass breakups, while James Wilder finished with six tackles and two breakups. 

  • Roland added four tackles including a pair of sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, while Nick Quintina also finished with four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a recovery.
