Men's Basketball Shoots Past Worcester State 79-74

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team used a late run in the first half to take the lead and held off a late surge from Worcester State as the Rams defeated the Lancers 79-74 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were led by a double-double from Joshua Saint Jean who came off the bench to score a team-high 27 points on 11-of-16 from the floor. Saint Jean grabbed 11 boards and added two assists. 

  • Kyle Philistin finished the night with 18 points for the Rams and added four rebounds, two assists and a block. 

  • JD Okafor contributed a double-double of his own with 10 points and team-high 14 rebounds, while Adonis Vashon finished the night with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. 

  • The first half started with six ties and six lead changes. With the game tied at 15-15, the Rams rattled off a 12-1 run capped by a Philistin layup to open a 27-19 lead with 6:07 on the clock.   

  • The Rams led by as many as 14 (36-22) on a Vashon three with 3:24 on the clock before taking a 40-29 lead into halftime. 

  • In the second half, the Rams maintained the advantage and led 52-38 on a Chance Wells three with 15:47 on the clock. The Lancers tallied four straight cutting the deficit to 52-43. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 70-52 after back-to-back layups from Saint Jean and Okafor with just over five to play in the second half. 

  • The Lancers used a 9-1 run capped by a Sam Davies three to close the gap to 71-61 with 2:48 to play. The Rams led 75-63 with 2:03 on the clock, but the Lancers tallied seven straight closing the gap to 75-70 with 1:14 to play. 

  • Two free throws from Philistin pushed the lead back to seven, 77-70, with just over a minute to play. The Lancers responded with four straight points pulling within three, 77-74 with 16.2 remaining the game. The Lancers were forced to foul, and Saint Jean made a pair to seal the game. 

  • The Rams shot 51% from the floor in the game and 35% from behind the arc, while the Lancers shot just 39% from the game and just 25% from long range. 

  • Prior to the game, the Rams honored their five seniors – Vashon, Jordan Howard, Okafor, Philistin and Chance Wells – as part of Senior Night.
