Men's Basketball Falls to Westfield State 67-62 in MASCAC Opener

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team went back and forth with Westfield State all night before the Owls capitalized from the foul line in the final minutes to secure a 67-62 victory over the Rams this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were paced by 14 points and five rebounds from Fallou Koite. Koite connected on 3-of-9 from the floor including 2-of-4 from behind the arc. 

  • Joshua Saint Jean finished the night with a double double of 12 points and 11 rebounds with two blocks, while Dyree Rogers added a double double of his own with 11 points and 12 rebounds. 

  • The first half saw three ties and 13 lead changes with the Rams claiming the largest lead, five points, on two occasions including in the final minute of the half. 

  • Tied at 27-27 with just over three on the clock, the Rams used a three-point play from Rogers and Chase layup to lead 32-27 with just under a minute. 

  • The Owls closed the half with the final four points, and the Rams led 32-31 at the half. Koite paced the Rams with 12 points in the first half, while Chase scored seven. 

  • The first four minutes of the second half mirrored the first half with the teams trading the lead and neither leading by more than three points. 

  • Tied at 38-38, the Owls rattled off a 10-0 run, taking a 50-40 lead with 11 minutes to play in the second half. 

  • The Rams outscored the Owls 14-5 over the next five minutes, closing the gap to 55-54 with 5:40 to play in the half. Alexander capped the run with a three from the top of the circle. 

  • Westfield retook a four point lead before jumpers from Washington and Alexander tied the game at 59-59 with 2:08 on the clock. 

  • The Owls pushed the lead back to three on a pair of occasions in the final two minutes, before two free throws from Rogers closed the gap to 63-62 with 11.4 on the clock. 

  • After a timeout, the Rams were forced to foul and Westfield went 4-for-4 from the line in the final ten seconds to secure the victory.
