Schels and Anderson Earn MASCAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors
Framingham, Mass. - Sophomore guard Jacqueline Schels (Hamburg, N.J.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week and freshman guard Zaria Anderson (New Bedford, Mass.) has been named the MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 1st.
Schels earned MASCAC Tournament MVP honors after averaging 23 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, two blocks and 1.5 steals in leading the Rams to the MASCAC Tournament title. Schels finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in the 60-56 semifinal win over Salem State. Schels tallied 22 points, including five three-pointers with six rebounds, a steal and a block in the 63-59 championship game victory over Bridgewater State.
Anderson averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the Rams run to the MASCAC Championship. Anderson scored 10 points with an assist and steal in the 60-56 semifinal win. Anderson added five points, including game-sealing free throws with 12 second remaining, plus five rebounds and two assists in the 63-59 championship game win.
