Women’s Lacrosse Begins Season with 17-4 Win Over Becker

Framingham, Mass. — Behind five goals from senior Ashley Noonan (Mansfield, Mass.) and four from freshman Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT), the Framingham State College women’s lacrosse team opened the 2010 season with a 17-4 win over Becker College this afternoon in New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action at Framingham’s Maple Street Field. The Rams who are in their first season as part of the NEWLA are now 1-0 on the season overall and 1-0 in the NEWLA.  Becker College falls to 1-2 overall with the loss and 0-1 in the NEWLA.     

Noonan led all scorers with her five goals, while junior Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.) added three goals and an assist.    Freshman Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) picked up two goals apiece.  McLean also chipped in three assists, while Kiley added one.  Freshman Elizabeth Zaino (Holliston, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal and picked up an assist in the game.

The Rams outshot the Hawks 41-17 in the game as Becker College goalie Lindsey Peluso (Dudley, Mass.) made 19 saves in the game. Framingham State freshman goalie Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) made 11 stops en route to her first collegiate win.

With Becker leading 2-1 just 6:24 into the game, the Rams offense scored 11 unanswered goals to open up a 12-2 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.   Junior Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game winner during that stretch with an unassisted tally at 14:14.   The Rams maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half to pick up the win.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Husson University at 1 p.m., while Becker hosts St. Joseph’s College (ME) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
