Women's Lacrosse Downed by UMass Dartmouth 14-10
North Dartmouth, Mass. - Three Corsairs scored four goals each as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Framingham State, 14-10, in a non-conference game at Cressy Field Tuesday.
Less than forty seconds into the first half, senior attacker Stephanie Kinchla put the Corsairs up 1-0 with a quick goal off a pass from sophomore midfielder Denise Gates. Back-to-back goals from Rams sophomore attacker Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.) and junior midfielder Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) gave FSU a 2-1 lead with 26:11 remaining in the first half.
Freshman attacker Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) regained the lead for UMD, scoring her first goal of the game at the 19:42 mark. Twenty seconds later, Kiley netted her second goal on the day, tying the score at 3-3. Kinchla scored again to put the Corsairs up 4-3, then Corsano added three consecutive goals in the final eight minutes of the half. Kiley cut the deficit with a free position goal at the end of the first half, making the score 7-5 at the break.
The Rams outscored the Corsairs 3-1 in the opening seven minutes of the second half, behind goals from Rijo and Kiley, to tie the game at 8-8. Sophomore attacker Brittney Enos (Falmouth, Mass.) tallied three consecutive goals off assists from Corsano and senior midfielder Samantha Wonson (Lowell, Mass.), putting the Corsairs up 11-9. UMD added three goals in the final ten minutes, securing the 14-10 victory.
Kinchla, Corsano and Enos led UMD with four goals apiece. Corsano added four assists, while Kinchla and Enos had one assist. Junior midfielder Allison O'Rouke (Weymouth, Mass.) notched two goals with two assists.
Rijo led the Rams offensive attack with four goals, while Kiley added three goals. Rams sophomore attacker Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) registered three goals with an assist in the loss.
The Rams outshot the Corsairs, 40-20. Angelina Donovan made 21 saves for UMD, while sophomore Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) made five stops for Framingham State.
