Women's Lacrosse Downs Wheaton 10-7 in Home Opener

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team tallied the first three goals of the final quarter as the Rams took control to defeat Wheaton College 10-7 this afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

-Records: Framingham State (1-2), Wheaton (0-3)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were led by four goals and an assist from Molly Lanier. Lanier added three ground balls and four draw controls in the game. 

  • Madeline Bosma finished the game with a pair of goals and a pair of ground balls, while Hailey Baker found the back of the net once and picked up three helpers. 

  • Isabella DiMare earned the victory in net for the Rams and made 12 saves. 

  • The Rams held a 28-23 advantage in ground balls for the game and a 12-9 edge in draw controls with both teams taking 27 shots in the contest. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the game on Lanier's first goal of the day, but the Lyons tied the score just two minutes later.  

  • Kelley DeBellis found the back of the net just 20 seconds later putting the Rams back on top, but Wheaton tallied the final marker of the frame sending the game to the second tied 2-2. 

  • The Rams tallied all three goals in the second period including goals from Baker, Bosma and Leah Green to lead 5-2 at the half. 

  • Wheaton tallied the only two goals in the third period sending the game to the fourth with the Rams leading 5-4. 

  • Lanier took control to start the fourth quarter tallying three goals in the first three minutes of the frame putting the Rams up 8-4.  The Lyons answered with back-to-back goals closing the deficit to 8-6 with just over five minutes to play. 

  • The Rams received a goal from Emma Kendzulak pushing the lead back to three before each team scored in the final two minutes to reach the final margin.
