Westfield State Edges Field Hockey 1-0 in MASCAC Clash

Westfield, Mass. – A lone goal in the first quarter from Sadie Stauffer proved to be the difference as Westfield State defeated Framingham State 1-0 in a tightly contested match at Alumni Field on Saturday. The victory improved Westfield State's conference record to 4-1, while Framingham State dropped to 2-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The game's only goal came early at the 3:21 mark when Sadie Stauffer found the back of the net, assisted by Abby Clark, putting Westfield State ahead 1-0. 

  • Westfield State's defense was stout, allowing just two shots on goal, both saved by goalkeeper Emma Gniadek, who recorded the shutout. 

  • Kaitlyn Tello was impressive in goal for Framingham State, making 10 saves to keep the game within reach for the Rams.

  • Shots: Westfield State dominated offensively, with 20 total shots (11 on goal) compared to just 2 shots (both on goal) for Framingham State. 

  • Penalty Corners: Westfield State also had an advantage in penalty corners, earning 9 compared to Framingham State's 4.
