Softball Splits a Pair with Simmons

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the opener 3-1 over Simmons before falling 9-6 in game two to the Sharks this afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 3, Simmons 1 

  • In the opener, Simmons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a solo home run from Raya Anderson and the lead stood until the bottom of the sixth inning. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the sixth on a two-run home run to left field from Abigail Behrikis. Makayla Rooney added an RBI double in the inning giving the Rams a 3-1 lead. 

  • Audrey Gauthier retired the Sharks in order in the top of the seventh to record her sixth victory of the season in the circle.  Gauthier went seven innings allowing one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts. 

  • Piper Kinney took the loss in the circle for the Sharks, going six innings allowing three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. 

Game 2: Simmons 9, Framingham 6 

  • In game two, the Sharks built a 4-1 lead after scoring a single run in the second and three in the third. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Brooke Grassia reached on an error allowing a run to score. 

  • The Sharks took control of the game with five runs in the top of the seventh to lead 9-4. The Rams pushed across two runs in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded with one out but were unable to get any closer. 

  • Julianna Chisholm started in the circle going three innings allowing four runs, one earned on five hits and did not factor in the decision. Sydney Bednarz took the loss going four innings of relief allowing five runs on four hits with two strikeouts. 

  • Carignan finished the game 2-for5 with a run scored and an RBI.
