Softball Splits with Previously Unbeaten UMass Boston

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team took game two of a doubleheader this afternoon 3-0 over previously unbeaten UMass Boston in non-conference action at Maple Street Field. The Beacons won the opener by a score of 4-2. 

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: UMass Boston 4, Framingham 2 

  • In the opener, the Beacons plated an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Rams answered with an RBI single from Eliza Carignan in the bottom of the inning tying the game. 

  • UMass Boston retook the lead with a single run in the top of the second, but the Rams once again tied the game on a Jocelyn Pepe RBI single in the third. 

  • The Beacons took the lead for good in the top of the sixth as they capitalized on a Ram error to plate the first run and added an RBI single from Ella Delisle. 

  • Audrey Gauthier took the loss in the circle for the Rams going seven innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Carignan finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Isabella MacDonald went 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. 

Game 2: Framingham 6 

  • In game two, the Rams handed the Beacons their first loss of the season. 

  • The Rams got on the board first on an RBI single from Marina Cadena in the bottom of the second inning.  

  • The Rams added to their lead in the bottom of the third when they loaded the bases, and Pepe delivered an RBI single to right.  Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson added an RBI fielder's choice pushing the lead to 3-0. 

  • Sydney Badnarz earned the victory in the circle going six innings and allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Audrey Gauthier earned the save coming in the game in the seventh and recording the final three out with runners on board for the Beacons. 

  • Brooke Grassia, Ava Sillings and Cadena all went 2-for-3 in the game.
