Softball Sweeps MASCAC Doubleheader with Worcester State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon with Worcester State by scores of 7-4 and 8-7 at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 7, Worcester State 4

- Records: Framingham State (18-6, 5-1 MASCAC), Worcester State (10-11, 1-5 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 7, Worcester 4 

  • In the opener, the Lancers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Eliza Carignan. 

  • Carignan put the Rams on top with a two-run single in the third and Jocelyn Pepe added an RBI single in the inning putting the Rams on top 4-1. 

  • Worcester State tied the game in the top of the fourth with three runs in the frame. 

  • The Rams plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth including RBI hits from Carignan and Pepe to surge ahead 6-4. 

  • Makayla Rooney added a solo homer in the sixth to reach the final margin. 

  • Audrey Guathier earned the victory going seven innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts. 

Game 2: Framingham 8, Worcester 7 

  • In game two, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double from Eliza Carignan. 

  • The Lancers tied the game in the top of the third inning, but the Rams retook the lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jocelyn Pepe belted a two-run homer in the inning and Makayla Rooney added an RBI double. 

  • The Lancers scored six runs in the top of the fifth taking a 7-5 lead. 

  • The Rams took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning on a two-run triple from Isabella MacDonald.

The Rams are back in action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Johnson & Wales.
