Softball Closes Regular Season with Sweep of Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team closed the regular season today with a pair of five inning victories over Fitchburg State by scores of 11-3 and 14-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Donna Lee Withington Field.

-Scores:  Framingham State 11, Fitchburg State 3 (5 Innings) 
Framingham State 14, Fitchburg State 2 (5 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (25-13, 10-4), Fitchburg State (7-32, 3-11)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 11, Fitchburg 3 

  • The Falcons got on the board in the fourth with a single run, but the Rams added two more in the top of the fifth on a pair of sacrifice flies from Ava Gray and Behrikis. Fitchburg added two runs in the bottom of the inning to reach the final score. 

  • Audrey Gauthier earned the victory going five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts. 

  • Rooney finished the game with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Etemad-Gilbertson finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI. 

Game 2: Framingham 14, Fitchburg 2 

  • In game two, the Rams got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single from Eliza Carignan. 

  • The Rams plated five in the second taking a 6-0 lead as Rooney doubled in a pair in the inning. 

  • The Rams received a two-run single from Etemad-Gilbertson in the third and then added six more runs in the fourth including a three run double from Brooke Grassia. 

  • The Falcons scored two in the fourth to reach the final margin. 

  • Sydney Bednarz earned the victory in the circle going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. 

  • Etemad-Gilbertson finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Roone went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. 

  • Grassia finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.
