Softball Sweeps Non-Conference Twinbill with Simmons

Framingham, Mass - The Framingham State University softball team recorded a pair of run rule victories this afternoon defeating Simmons by scores of 8-0 in six innings and 13-5 in five innings in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In the opener, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a solo homerun by Ava Gray. 

  • Eliza Carignan added a solo homer of her own to deep center in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the Rams lead to 2-0. 

  • The Rams added two more in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single from Amanda Roche. 

  • two-run single from Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson in the bottom of the sixth pushed the lead to 6-0 and Mikayla Yuricheck secured the run rule victory with a two-run double to end the game. 

  • Audrey Gauthier earned the victory by going six shutout innings, allowing just six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. 

  • Isabella MacDonald finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Etemad-Gilbertson finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. 

  • In game two, Simmons got on the board in the top of the first with three runs. 

  • The Rams answered with three in the bottom of the second, including RBI base hits from MacDonald and Kate Brodzinski and a sacrifice fly from Carignan. 

  • Simmons retook the lead with two in the top of the third, but the Rams plated six in the bottom of the inning taking a 9-5 lead.  

  • The Rams added two in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run rule victory. 

  • Peyton Farris earned the victory going five innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with a strikeout. 

  • MacDonald went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, while Carignan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. 

  • Ava Gray added two hits and two RBI.
