Softball Takes Game Two in Split of MASCAC Doubleheader with Anna Maria

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team surrendered a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh of game one as Anna Maria came from behind to defeat the Rams 5-4 before the Rams held off Anna Maria for 6-5 victory in game two in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In the opener, the Rams got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI groundout from Eliza Carignan 

  • The Rams added a single run in the top of third on an RBI groundout from Isabella MacDonald, but Anna Maria got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 2-1. 

  • The Rams pushed the lead back to two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from MacDonald.  

  • The Rams added a run on an RBI single from Carignan in the top of the seventh, but the Amcats walked off with the victory in the bottom of the inning on a grand slam home run. 

  • Audrey Gauthier took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs on two hits with 11 strikeouts and eight walks. 

  • MacDonald and Carignan finished the game with two hits apiece and two RBI. 

  • In game two, Ava Gray delivered a three run home run to center in the top of the third, putting the Rams up 3-0. 

  • Anna Maria plated three in the bottom of the third tying the game 3-3. 

  • The Rams retook the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Carignan, but the Amcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a groundout. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and retook the lead on an RBI fielder's choice from MacDonald. 

  • The Rams added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI infield single from Makayla Yuricheck. 

  • Anna Maria took advantage of fielding miscue by the Rams in the bottom of the seventh to close the deficit to one, but Payton Farris recorded a strikeout to end the game. 

  • Farris earned the victory going seven innings, allowig five runs, three earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts.
