Women’s Soccer Projected to Finish Sixth in MASCAC Preseason Poll
Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's soccer team has been chosen to finish sixth in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer preseason poll in voting conducted by the conference's eight coaches. The Rams received 26 total points.
Worcester State University was selected to finish first with 60 points and five first place votes, while Westfield State was right behind in the second spot with 55 points and the remaining three first place votes. 2010 Regular Season Champion MCLA secured the third spot with 44 points, while Bridgewater State slipped into fourth with 40 points. Just ahead of the Rams in fifth with 32 points was Salem State and rounding out the poll in seventh was Fitchburg State (23 points) and Massachusetts Maritime in eighth.
The Rams finished the 2010 season with a 7-10 overall record and 3-4 mark in the MASCAC which placed them in a tie for fifth. Seven wins the Rams best win total since the 2006 season. The Rams return a solid core of veterans for the 2011 season including sophomore back Mary Brinkmann (Bridgewater, Mass.), who earned all-conference honors in her rookie season, and 2010 leading scorer forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.), who picked up six goals and three assists as a junior.
The women's soccer team opens the 2011 season on Saturday, September 3rd as they travel to Nichols College at 11 a.m.
