Last Second Block and Touchdown Return Lifts Football Past Anna Maria 31-25

Paxton, Mass. - With the game tied, the Framingham State University football team blocked a field goal with two seconds remaining and Amari Williams scooped the loose ball returning it for the game winning touchdown as the Rams defeated Anna Maria 31-25 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Caparso Field. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Tied at 25-25 Anna Maria took possession with 5:07 remaining on the clock and drove down to the Rams five-yard line with two seconds on the clock, setting up a 22-yard field goal attempt to win the game.  Korey Barron came through and blocked the kick for the Rams and Williams raced to the endzone for the game winning score with no time remaining. 

  • The Rams got on the board first on a two-yard touchdown run from Scotty Brown with 7:23 on the clock in the first. 

  • Anna Maria responded with a touchdown and field taking a 9-7 with just under two minutes to play in the half, but the Rams used a 19-yard field goal from Dylan Mangus in the closing seconds to lead 10-9 at the half. 

  • Anna Maria pushed the lead to 19-10 in the first five minutes of the third, but the Rams used a safey and one-yard touchdown run from Jaheim Daniels to trail 19-18. Anna Maria added a touchdown late in the third and led 25-18 after three quarters. 

  • The Rams tied the game in the opening minute of the fourth on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Jarvin. Mangus converted the extra point tying the game 25-25 which would hold until the closing minute. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams amasses 332 yards of total offense in the game including 234 yards through the air, while holding Anna Maria to just 266 yards of offense. 

  • Brown finished the game 19-of-32 for 234 yards with a touchdown and a pick. 

  • Ayden Ramirez made three catches in the game for 81 yards with a long of 50, while Daniels finished the game with 91 yards rushing on 16 carries and made eight catches for 65 yards. 

  • James Wilder led the defense with six solo tackles, while Barron finished the game with five stops including a tackle for a loss and the key block. 

  • Arlingcove Paul added five tackles including one for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, while Devine Johnson finished with four stops and a pair of interceptions.
