Football Celebrates Homecoming with 35-24 Victory over Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team received three touchdown passes from Michael Marcucella as the Rams defeated Westfield State 35-24this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Bowditch Field on Homecoming and Family Weekend. 

THE BASICS:

-Records: Framingham State (5-1, 5-0 MASCAC), Westfield State (2-4, 2-3 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Marcucella received the Calder Award after the game, which is presented annually to the MVP of the Homecoming Day Game for Framingham State. The award is presented in memory of former Ram John Calder who was a team captain in 1983.  Marcucella finished the game 12-of-19 for 187 yards with three touchdowns, while also rushing for 22 yards on four carries. 

  • Jaheim Daniels rushed for 102 yards on 19 carries with a score, while also making two catches for 19 yards. 

  • Alex Maia had five receptions for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Mathias Fowler made four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. Stephen Gallant had one catch in the game for a 64-yard score, while Scotty Brown completed 8-of-10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board first on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Fowler with 1:54 to play in the first. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 14-0 on an 18-yard touchdown from Marcucella to Maia, but the Owls answered with a score closing the gap to 14-6 with 12:39 to go before the half. 

  • The Rams added a 15-yard touchdown run from Daniels with just over five minutes to go in the second, taking a 21-6 lead into the half. 

  • The Rams scored a pair of third quarter touchdowns around another score from the Owls to lead 35-12 after three.  Marcucella connected with Gallant first for a 64-yard score before founding Maia from 29 yards out. 

  • The Owls recorded a pair of safeties in the fourth quarter on snaps for Ram punts that went out of the back of the endzone and added a later touchdown to reach the final margin.
